Our story

Two lads, one van and a lot of walls

We are two lads from Águilas. We were born here, we live here and nobody is moving us. If there is one place in Spain that knows what sun and sea salt do to a wall, it is this one.

First, learn the trade (walls do not paint themselves)

Neither of us ended up in painting by accident. We trained in the trade, and the first thing you learn is that painting is the easy part. The hard part is what you do not see: preparing the wall properly before you open the tin.

Years on the big sites along the coast

When this whole coast was growing and entire blocks and developments were going up, we were there, working as professionals on the big sites. Paint a whole block and you learn to leave the last flat as good as the first, to meet a deadline and not to leave a single drop where it should not be.

And one day we said: “Acho, what if we set up on our own?”

(“Acho” is how half the sentences start round here.) With the trade well and truly learnt, we took the step. We wanted to work our own way: see the house before giving a price, explain everything clearly and put what we say in writing. That is how Pinturas Soco began.

What has not changed

We are still the same two lads, with a lot more walls behind us. And we are still painters, and only painters: no building work and no plasterboard. We remove gotelé (the textured finish on so many Spanish walls), smooth walls, paint flats, houses, facades, commercial premises and communal areas, and waterproof terraces. All in writing: a fixed price in the contract and a one-year guarantee.
